General description

The Newton Stewart & District Angling Association’s beat on the River Cree is situated in the heart of Newton Stewart and offers visitors affordable fishing, which can be very productive.  There are 12 named pools (some substantial in size)  all of which are easily accessible from nearby car parking. The best pools on the Association’s water are The breweery, Doctors, Suspension Bridge, and Ghyll pools.  Most of the fishing is double bank with two small sections of single bank fishing.The beat begins at the tidal part of the Cree , which can be very productive even in low water.  Spring salmon are caught each year and there is a run of summer salmon in May/June with good runs of grilse in entering the river in July.If you are keen to fish in the evening, the Association’s water is the most productive sea trout beat on the river and good night fishing can be had from early June.

Parking:

Most visiting anglers park at the main car park in the town and walk to the various pools.  However there is parking available close to all of the pools on the river.
